My Fall Curriculum

I just wrapped up week one of my Fall Intentional Semester and I’m feeling so pumped. Its my first personal curriculum but I’ve loved being inspired by how many people are riding the lifelong learning train. As someone who has always valued education and graduated college about 2 years ago now, I’m always looking for new ways to learn and grow without having to worry about expenses. Once I saw this trend I knew this was one I had to hop on.

But why did it call to me so much?

  • Zero to low cost

  • Specific to me and whatever interests me

  • No pressure of grades or professors

  • My pace, as much or as little as I want

Because its things I’m so interested in learning I found myself eager to dive into the idea and didn’t build out the full curriculum until about 2 days in and shortly after I figured out a good schedule for the week. This would make the perfect example that somethings work better as you just start them and not wait to overly plan.

If you’re thinking of starting your own there are a few things to consider.

  • What topics/courses would you like to explore?

  • What would the curriculum look if spread over the course of a weeks?

  • What supplemental courses, text, resources and supplies could you utilize in your curriculum?

  • A study schedule you can work into your current

So what did I choose and why?

I decided to start with simplicity with three topics. I chose one course for my personal growth, one for my career growth, and one more for my creative growth. Depending on how this semester goes I’ll revisit adding or subtracting to the load but so far I’ve enjoyed every topic and dove in with excitement.

For my personal growth I’ve chosen to learn more about media literacy and critical thinking. We as individuals are consuming more media than ever from advertisements, to text messages, to short form content. I’ve taken a media studies course before which I found interesting but this time around I’m more curious about the impacts of AI and the algorithm.

For career growth I decided to enroll in a free course on Learning Experience Design (LXD). As I mentioned I have passion for education and learning and its a field that constantly evolving. This is a great way for me to stay up to date on the latest trends.

For my creative growth I’m picking up with what I’ve begun learning about bullet journaling. I’ve recently discovered a whole community of creatives who love journaling. I’ve loved watching how differently people take the concept and make it their own. I know I’ve improved so much already since first starting this year, but now that I’m conscious its an actual thing, I want to learn the absolute basics.

Stay tuned for more tips on how you can build your own personal curriculum!
